Small upright tree, more or less wide, with a short trunk. It has dense, purple foliage when it sprouts out, turning later to bright green colour in summer. It will change again in fall time to warm tones of orange-apricot. The leaves have a very caracteristic fragrance of caramel in fall. Blooms are uninteresting,followed by a few pods.
Makes an excellent specimen tree in a small garden. Main branches have a definite upsweep while branchlets droop vertically in long, graceful streamers. Dull green foliage. It grows better when planted in a sunny area but sheltered.
