From mountainous southwest Turkey, this subspecies of Cedrus libani displays better cold hardiness than other forms, making it useful for Northern climates. Like the species, the dark green conifer changes frome a pyramidal form in youth to a flat-topped, picturesque tree with stiff, horizontal branches and a massive trunk in maturity. Attractive, broadly columnar, durable and unusual.
