But for your hedges, trees, shrubs, and rose bushes, August signals that winter is on its way!

That's because woody plants follow the rhythm of the seasons based on daylight. The shortening days clearly tell them: it's time to prepare for the cold. This natural process is called hardening off. It's when plants stop growing, strengthen their structure, reduce water content in their above-ground parts, and start storing energy.
By mid-August, stop using regular fertilizer. Instead, choose a blend designed for hardening off—look for a high potassium number (like 4-3-6).
A multi-purpose fall fertilizer is a smart choice for mixed flowerbeds with perennials, shrubs, trees, and annuals.
As for potted annuals, you can keep using a fertilizer that boosts blooms and growth.
It's always a good time to plant! Each season comes with its own set of conditions, but nursery trees and shrubs are always happy to finally settle into the ground. So why wait? Picture the beautiful impact your planting will have next spring in front of your home. Come choose yours today!

Fall sales are just around the corner—stay tuned!

June beetles, those big buzzing insects that love your patio lights, are mostly active at night.
They're not just stopping by to say hi—they lay eggs in your lawn, and those become grubs! A well-lit lawn in the evening is much more likely to attract these pests. The fix? Just turn off the lights when night falls!
They also prefer neat, trimmed grass. So try switching things up: go for mixed beds, mow less often, and keep your lawn a bit longer (over 8 cm). Regular fertilizing also helps keep your turf healthy and growing strong.
Still having issues? Try Grub Be Gone™, a bio-pesticide that targets both beetles and their larvae using a natural bacteria: Bacillus thuringiensis galleriae. Visit us in store for tips on how to use it.

Some spots are empty after harvesting radishes, lettuce, and other fast growers. Don't leave them bare—unwanted weeds will take over! Try late-summer sowing instead. Lots of quick-growing veggies are still an option: baby beets, peas, lettuces, Asian greens, shallots, mini carrots, mizunas, early bush beans, and more. Stop by to browse our wide selection!

Want to boost your soil? Plant a green manure crop! Come find the right one for your garden at the nursery.
