What flower is more emblematic than the rose? With May comes an abundance of choices among rose cultivars at Jasmin.

In addition to the well-known tea rose, gardeners who take fewer risks in terms of hardiness will delight in English roses! They combine hardiness with very fragrant blooms.
'Gertrude Jekyll' stands out for the exceptional scent of its imposing and abundant flowers. This sturdy shrub reaches 1.5 meters in width and blooms more than once per season.

'Roald Dahl' is also worth a look with its apricot-colored floral buds opening into fragrant, dense, and compact yellow-orange flowers. It blooms throughout the season under good growing conditions. Its denser growth habit and smaller size at maturity make it suitable for decorative pot culture.

Among several 2024 newcomers that have caught the attention of enthusiasts, we find PowerPuff Pink® from the Star® series. The vibrant dark pink flowers are clustered in groups of 6 or 8 on each stem and emit a gentle lemony fragrance. They somewhat resemble peonies in their shape and the density of petals on each bud.

In the category of climbing, we have the highly fragrant Kiss Me Kate™ from the Kordes® series. The former bears medium-sized, classically shaped flowers in a rich pink hue with tightly packed petals on long stems ideal for cutting.

Pretty In Pink Eden Climber®, still rare in the market, can reach a height of 3 meters. It is known to be resistant to black spot and powdery mildew. Its abundant, fragrant, dark pink flowering is almost continuous from late spring to autumn.

Last but not least, Flavorette® Honey-Apricot from the Edible Rose™ collection is considered a climbing rose due to its upright and narrow growth habit. Rich yellow in the center with yellow-pink petals on the edges, its flowering continues throughout the summer and requires minimal maintenance. This particular collection has been designed to combine the pleasures of the palate with those of the eyes and nose. Flavorette’s petals will enhance your dishes after delighting you in the garden!

To properly plan a new flower bed, many elements must be taken into account. Growing conditions (soil, sunlight, irrigation) are central, as well as the amount of maintenance time you plan to dedicate. To achieve a harmonious and cohesive result, it's important to choose well-matched plants with slightly different characteristics, focusing on foliage colors, flowering periods, and autumnal attractions.

Several trees and shrubs offer spectacular blooms as soon as the snow melts. Others, more discreet, add undeniable charm to our landscapes. Here are a few.
Asian Hamamelis: Witch-hazel

A medium-sized shrub ideal as a backdrop to highlight perennials with more exuberant summer charms, witch hazel is one of the first, along with Forsythia, to be covered with small, colorful, and fragrant flowers very early in spring.

Fothergilla gardenii

This underutilized shrub in landscaping will charm you with its light and delicate spikes of highly fragrant white flowers. Throughout the summer, its dark green foliage will enhance the blooms of shorter plants. With the cold temperatures, it will turn bright red for your enjoyment.

Every spring, many people are surprised by late frosts or nights that are too cool. Be wary before putting in the ground all your annual finds that fear the cold. Most prefer temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius. Be aware that for spinach, lettuce, sorrel, Swiss chard, strawberry, asparagus and rhubarb plants, they can tolerate cooler nights. Watch the weather forecast!
