The more time you take to plan and choose wisely, the more rewarding your harvest will be. Small fruit gardening has been growing in popularity, and the range of cultivars available today is truly impressive. Classic favourites like raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries remain must-haves — but why not explore something new? Consider hardy kiwi berries, aronia, goji berries, and more!

Select varieties based on the conditions you can provide and the space you have available. Urban gardener? Why not grow small fruits in SmartPots? Many cultivars are hardy enough to overwinter above ground.

Take the opportunity to discover unique varieties rarely found at the market, such as sweet, amber-yellow raspberries that produce over an extended season.
Worried about missing harvest because of vacation plans? No problem. Many cultivars are early or everbearing. And don't forget delicious haskap berries, ready as early as mid-June! Come speak with our experienced horticulturists — we’ll help you make the perfect choices.

March is the ideal month to prune trees that need shaping, as their structure is clearly visible before leaf-out. Important: Avoid pruning trees that "bleed" sap during dormancy-especially maples, walnuts, birches, and hornbeams. Apple trees, plum trees, and most other fruit trees, however, benefit greatly from March pruning.
Basic Pruning Tips:
• Don't overdo it — trees need branches and foliage to thrive.
• Remove no more than one-third of the tree at a time.
• Disinfect tools regularly with 70% alcohol to prevent disease spread.
• Keep tools sharp for clean, precise cuts.
• Avoid leaving stubs — they invite pests and disease.
For more complex jobs, seek advice or hire a professional.
